Smartness is a topic that has generated global interest. Although it is difficult to define smartness, Smart Cities are recognised in Europe and internationally. These cities, have taken up initiatives that helped them to become smart. However, are these initiatives sufficient to create a framework that can be used to create Smart Cities?

The aim of this Skype session is to present and discuss the Smart Cities ranking, awards, and initiatives, as a method to understand smartness, through the doctoral research in Smart Cities.

In this session, discussion will explore:

-How does a city become smart(er)?

-Smart City challenges & innovations

-Smart City low carbon strategies
