Initial experts meeting for Experiencing the future mundane project

On the 28th of January we held our first meeting with experts from industry and academia in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). These experts were invited to review our plans for the Future Mundane experience we are developing that explores our potential future interactions with media augmented by IoT, AI, and personal data. The experience itself will mix the real and fictional and will be housed in a caravan which will allow us to take it to the places which are out of reach of projects presented in universities or museums and galleries.

To kick off the event we invited the group to experience the Living Room of the Future which we developed in conjunction with BBC R&D and our project partners from the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham.

This was followed by a set of lively discussions around privacy, ethics, trust, adoption, and security of data and devices relating to IoT and AI. The topics also discussed our agency and ability to negotiate with such systems in relation to such systems and how this could be made more legible.

Loaded with new insights and fresh ideas we are now entering the build and development phase of caravan experience which will feature in future updates.
