Flourish

ImaginationLancaster Design Summit Series 2021

ImaginationLancaster is delighted to announce a series of 3 ‘Flourish’ Design Summits featuring distinguished experts from the international design community. Each Flourish event will explore a different theme. Bold and brilliant provocations which respond to the theme and explore the contribution that design and design research can make will be presented by our esteemed guests and Imagination to stimulate positive debate. These invitation-only events will bring together an intimate number of established and emerging voices to allow for a rich, in-depth discussion.

The aim of the Design Summit Series is to shape the debate around the future of design and inform the development of the next generation of design researcher. Proceedings will form the basis of a future Design Summit vision publication to which speakers and guests are invited to contribute.

Flourish Together

18th March 2021, 2-4pm

Hosted by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling.
Featuring: Dr. John Ehrenfeld, Author of The Right Way to Flourish: Reconnecting with the Real World.
Dr Mariana Amatullo, Vice Provost for Global Strategic Initiatives at Parsons School of Design, New York.

What does it mean for us to flourish together? As a species, our ingenuity has transformed the way we connect and interact in profound ways. Yet despite all our progress we face huge challenges. In a world of increasing inequality and instability, how might we overcome the divisions that limit our collective actions to not simply survive but also thrive?

Flourishing in the World
22nd April 2021, 2 – 4:30pm

Hosted by Distinguished Professor Deyan Sudjic.
Featuring Sevra Davies, Director for Architecture Design Fashion at the British Council.
Jenny Sabin, Principal of Jenny Sabin Studio, an experimental architectural design studio based in Ithaca, and director of the Sabin Lab at Cornell AAP.
Ravi Naidoo, Founder and managing director of Interactive Africa and Design Indaba Conference and Festival held annually in Cape Town.

How can design enable us to flourish in the world? The environmental impact of our products, places, and services has led to significant and, in some cases, irreversible changes. It is time to rethink the priorities and associations between the social, technological, and the global. How do we design for people and planet to prosper, now and in the future?

Flourishing Organisations
20th May 2021, 9-11am

Hosted by Professor Bruce Brown.
Featuring Dr Andrea Cooper, Director of Design for the Connected Places Catapult.
Professor Kun-Pyo Lee, Dean of School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Why do some organisations flourish while others do not? The ways we do business and why have evolved. The pursuit of economic reward is only one value by which success might be measured. It is clear we need new goals for organisations of all kinds to thrive. How might organisations reconfigure their approaches and provide ecologies for their work to blossom?
