Engaging Communities for Early Career Academics

IDEAS for Impact ran a third training session on engaging with communities for early career academics, which was part of a programme of training events organised by OED (the Organisation and Educational Development department within Lancaster University).

The aim of the event was to provide the group with advice and recommendations around key themes to consider when planning for engaging communities with their research areas, as well as give examples of research that has been successful in engaging communities.

Throughout the morning, there five presentations on a range of key topics from a range of community engagement experts inside and outside the university:

Events presented by Jane Taylor from the Lancaster Environment Centre

Working with Groups presented by Leon Cruickshank, Roger Whitham and Laura Morris on the IDEAS for Impact Project

Outcomes presented by Gemma Coupe from ImaginationLancaster in LICA

The IDEAS for Impact team covered their approach to designing engaging events, which included descriptions of specific tools they have been designed and used on the project.  As mentioned in the presentation, some of these tools are available to order and download free to Lancaster University staff from our Collaboration and Impact Toolbox website here.
